The vivo Y02s is a very affordable smartphone that features a boxy design and a slim body. In fact, vivo claims that it is the thinnest smartphone in its price range and promotes it with the slogan “Slim Yet Powerful”.
Let’s take the device out of the box and check its design, features, and freebies.
The vivo Y02s comes in a white box with a glossy device name and some details on the back.
Opening the box immediately reveals the smartphone in a protective plastic layer. Underneath the phone is the quick start guide and warranty certificate.
There’s also a charger, USB type-C cable, and SIM ejector pin inside the box. The charger has a rated output of 5V/2A or 10W charging rate.
Sadly, it doesn’t come with free earphones or a phone case. Check the store where you plan on buying this phone for additional freebies.
The back of the vivo Y02s is made out of plastic but the glittery finish makes it look like frosted glass or anodized aluminum. It also has anti-fingerprint properties which means the phone’s design should remain pristine.
Its camera module stands out with its glossy surroundings while the vivo logo is a bit muted at the bottom. The dual-camera appearance is a nice touch although the second ring only houses the LED flash.
Turning the vivo Y02s on its right side shows the volume and power buttons. The sides are flat giving it that boxy aesthetic but the edges are angled. Along with the slim profile and light 183-gram weight, this makes the device comfortable to hold.
At the bottom of the phone are a 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, USB type-C port, and loudspeaker grille. Its SIM card tray can be accessed from the top and offers separate slots for two SIM cards and a microSD memory card.
On the front is its 6.51-inch HD+ display. It has a small notch for the selfie camera and narrow bezels except for the substantial chin.
Its edges have a 2.5D curve which makes it smoother to swipe from the edges but the overall form is still flat.
There are some pre-installed apps like TikTok, Facebook, Spotify, and FoodPanda but these can be easily uninstalled. It’s an essential step in setting up the device since it has limited storage space.
About half of the 32GB internal storage is already occupied by system files and apps upon unboxing the vivo Y02s. Thankfully, the microSD card slot can add up to 256GB of storage space!
I launched the camera app of the vivo Y02s and there are four modes readily available – Beauty, Photo, Video, and Time-lapse. It will be interesting to see what this 8-Megapixel camera can do.
Here’s a couple of sample pictures but I have to test this further in more scenes:
As usual, I will be putting the vivo Y02s through a series of tests in the next several days and publish a full review of my experience.
