The OPPO Find X2 Pro is OPPO’s flagship smartphone for 2020. It has top-of-the-line features including a 120Hz curved display, Snapdragon 865 chipset, 48MP triple cameras, and 65W ultra-fast charging speed.

I’ve been using the device for one month and here’s my full review. This includes my thoughts about the design, sample pictures from the cameras, gaming tests, battery life tests, and more.

Vegan Leather Design

There are two versions of the OPPO Find X2 Pro – one with a Ceramic back and another with Vegan Leather. I have the latter in orange.

It looks unique, feels soft to touch, and gives off a premium vibe like real leather. It doesn’t attract fingerprints nor smudges but dust can accumulate in the corners of the camera bump. It’s also not scratch resistant but hairline scratches aren’t as visible compared to glass-clad smartphones.

The camera module is pretty substantial since it packs a lot of new techs inside. There’s a rectangular lens on the top which is the periscope telephoto camera, two normal-looking cameras below it, and a dual-LED flash.

On the right side of the device is its power button with a green accent color while on the other side are the volume buttons. Its SIM tray, USB Type-C port, and loudspeaker are all at the bottom.

A tall 6.7-inch display occupies the front with very narrow bezels and curved sides. It has a small punch-hole on its top left corner for the selfie camera.

Overall, the OPPO Find X2 Pro has a slightly different vibe than other flagship smartphones thanks to its Vegan Leather back cover. Still, it feels sleek and premium with its slim profile, solid build, unique materials, and curved edges.

120Hz QHD+ AMOLED Display

The 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display of the OPPO Find X2 Pro is a joy to use. It’s bright, vibrant, smooth, and very responsive.

It’s clearly legible even under the noontime sun and the colors pop when it’s kept in the default settings. The responsiveness is a result of its 240Hz touch sampling rate which detects touch inputs faster than regular touch screens.

Of course, its 120Hz screen refresh rate makes the biggest difference to the overall experience. This is twice as smooth as the usual 60Hz displays making animations and transitions look snappy and more fluid.

This view highlights the curved sides and single punch-hole of the display.

Unlike Samsung’s S20 series, it can be set to use the full QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate at the same time. The Galaxy S20 series only supports 120Hz at FHD+ resolution. However, the Find X2 Pro still switches down to 60Hz automatically depending on the app being used, perhaps to conserve battery.

There’s also a feature called O1 Ultra Vision Engine which improves the dynamic range of videos. It’s not for everyone but I like it and kept it turned on.

Lastly, the punch-hole at the top of the screen seldom becomes a nuisance while the curved edges make swiping from the sides more comfortable with minimal accidental touches and vignetting. This is one of the best displays I’ve seen on a smartphone so far.

Snapdragon 865 Performance

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset powers the OPPO Find X2 Pro along with 12GB of RAM and an Android 10-based ColorOS software.

These make it one of the most powerful smartphones this year. In fact, it achieved the highest Antutu Benchmark score worldwide in June 2020!

Of course, real-world performance is more important than benchmark numbers. It has ultra-smooth scrolling, quick app launches, lag-free gaming, and minimal heating. Switching from one app to another feels fluid, even when switching from a game to Facebook and back!

When it comes to gaming, the device runs any game your heart desires smoothly. All games that I tested ran at an average frame rate of 60 fps at high graphics quality. It even feels more responsive because of the quick touch response.

However, it doesn’t allow games to run at higher frame rates even if the display supports it. NBA 2K20 is capped at 60 fps when that is usually my go-to game for testing high refresh rate displays since it can run at up to 90fps.

Don’t worry though, this is only for games as other apps reach 120 fps quite easily. I measured the average frame rates using GameBench Pro.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro has a customized skin on top of Android 10 called ColorOS. This version of the software looks cleaner and more intuitive than previous iterations.

It has special features including an App cloner which allows two instances of the same app to run at the same time, Game Space for gaming experience enhancement, and OPPO share for sharing files wirelessly.

It also comes with exclusive apps like Soloop for video editing, OPPO Relax for meditation, and Music Party for synchronized music playback.

Camera Quality with Sample Pictures

The OPPO Find X2 Pro has triple rear cameras that include a 48 Megapixel main camera, 48 Megapixel ultra-wide camera, and 13 Megapixel periscope telephoto camera.

Taking pictures “point-and-shoot” style usually results in great-looking images whether in daylight, artificial light, or low light. The pictures look sharp, bright, and vibrant. It keeps the dark areas bright without over-exposing the highlights.

The main camera has a narrow plane of focus for close-up subjects though resulting in aggressive background blur even if you want that part of the subject to be in sharp focus. Thankfully, the phone automatically detects these scenes and switches to the macro mode which uses the ultra-wide camera for better results.

When it comes to its main function, the ultra-wide camera produces pictures with similar quality as the main camera but with a wider field-of-view. It’s not as sharp but still captures plenty of details especially in daytime pictures of landscapes.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro also shoots up to 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom using its 13 Megapixel periscope telephoto camera. Its 2x zoom and 5x zoom pictures look amazing with sharp details and balanced colors.

As you go to the 10x zoom, photos still look good but with a small drop in quality since it’s already a hybrid zoom and uses software enhancement instead of a raw optical capability. The 60x zoom photos mainly use digital zoom but the results look clean.

Video quality is impressive too. The OPPO Find X2 Pro can shoot up to 4K 60fps videos that look vibrant and clean with plenty of details. There’s also a feature called Ultra Steady that reduces shakiness and Sound Focus which enhances the sound from the subject.

For selfies, the device uses a single 32 Megapixel punch-hole front camera. It takes good-looking selfies but you have to disable the beautification effects for a more authentic result.

5G Connectivity and Sound Quality

The OPPO Find X2 Pro actually has the hardware for 5G networks but it’s disabled when there’s no 5G signal in the area yet. Once 5G becomes live, an over-the-air (OTA) software update can turn this feature on for faster mobile internet speed with less latency.

It also has dual-band Wi-Fi, dual-band GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC.

When it comes to sound quality, the OPPO Find X2 Pro impresses with its loudspeaker and free earphones. Both sound good and I’m especially loving the stereo loudspeaker setup that uses the earpiece as a stereo pair of the bottom-firing speaker.

Under-Display Fingerprint Scanner and Other Sensors

There’s an under-display fingerprint scanner on the OPPO Find X2 Pro and it’s one of the good ones. It’s not as fast as traditional fingerprint scanners but it’s quick and reliable enough.

It also has Face Recognition that uses the selfie camera. It’s inherently less secure but I found it more convenient especially when I have wet or dirty fingers and the fingerprint scanner refuses to recognize my digits.

Other sensors on the device include the usual ambient light sensor, gyroscope for AR apps, and a barometer that measures atmospheric pressure and altitude.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery Life test score of the OPPO Find X2 Pro.

Battery Life test score of the OPPO Find X2 Pro.

A 4,260mAh dual-battery setup powers the OPPO Find X2 Pro but it only scored 8 hours and 56 minutes in the PCMark Battery Life Test 2.0.

This test simulates continuous real-world usage with the phone set to airplane mode and its screen brightness kept at 50%. On average, the smartphones that I review score around 10-11 hours.

It usually lasts an entire day of casual usage. However, playing games or using its cameras extensively takes a big hit on the battery.

Thankfully, re-charging the OPPO Find X2 Pro is insanely fast.

It takes less than 40 minutes to recharge from 0% to 100% battery capacity and can even reach 90% battery capacity in 30 minutes! This is the fastest charging time I’ve seen on a smartphone yet.

This is because it uses the SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology with 65 watts of charging power. Its 4,260mAh battery is actually composed of two 2,130mAh batteries that re-charges at the same time making it charge faster while keeping the device within the safe limits of temperature and current flow.

It doesn’t have wireless charging though. Most flagship smartphones in this price range usually have wireless charging but OPPO says the 65W wired charging makes a slow wireless charger unnecessary.

Conclusion

The OPPO Find X2 Pro box.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro box.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro is one of the best smartphones available in the Philippines this year. It has a premium design, powerful performance, impressive cameras, and an insanely fast charging time.

My main issues are wonky macro photography, mediocre battery life, and high price tag. At ₱65,990, the device competes directly with the iPhone 11 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Huawei P40 Pro+, and Samsung Note20 Ultra.

If you’re choosing among these smartphones, then the OPPO Find X2 Pro is worth considering. Otherwise, it will be more prudent to look at the Reno series instead.
