Huawei officially unveiled the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro smartphones yesterday. It might sound like the Pro version is better over the regular Mate 30 but in some features, the latter is my preferred smartphone.

These include a bigger display, smaller screen cutout or notch, and the presence of a 3.5mm audio jack.

Bigger Display

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The Huawei Mate 30 has a 6.62-inch display that uses OLED technology and has an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. Meanwhile, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro only has a 6.53-inch screen.

However, the Mate 30’s display only has slight curves in its edges since it uses a mostly flat 2.5D glass. On the other hand, the Mate 30 Pro’s “Horizon” display curves around the edges at 88° resulting in zero side bezels!

Smaller Notch

The Huawei Mate 30 has a smaller notch at the top of its display compared to the Mate 30 Pro’s wide notch.

This is because the Pro variant has additional sensors including a secondary 3D TOF selfie camera for bokeh effect and a gesture sensor for controlling the smartphone using hand gestures. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 30 only has its 24 Megapixel selfie camera and a couple of sensors in the notch.

3.5mm Audio Jack

Some people might not care much about the 3.5mm audio jack but it’s more convenient when you prefer using a third party set of earphones. This can provide better audio quality and with less hassle, since there’s no need for a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack adaptor.

Only the Huawei Mate 30 has the analog port since the Mate 30 Pro only uses the USB Type-C port for audio output. It does come with an adaptor and USB Type-C earphones inside the box.

Here’s a more detailed comparison between specs of the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.
