The first flagship Android smartphone from Nokia is now official – the Nokia 8. It carries top notch specs on top of the trusted Nokia name.

Its stand out features include a dual rear camera system that uses Carl Zeiss optics and the Nokia OZO Audio that produces 360-degree spatial sound.

Design and Display

The Nokia 8 largely follows the design language of its predecessors such as the Nokia 6. Three colors are available: blue, silver and copper.

It flaunts a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with slightly curved edges covered by Gorilla Glass 5. The top and bottom bezels are a bit large though.

The dual rear cameras of the Nokia 8 is composed of two 13.0 Megapixel sensors. One is RGB while the other is monochrome. The combination results in sharper details in photos and videos.

It has a combination of laser and phase detection autofocus technologies, dual tone LED flash and lens correction by Carl Zeiss.

The front camera is also a 13.0 Megapixel sensor but with fixed focus. Nevertheless, it can record 2160p videos.

Processor and Memory

The Nokia 8 runs on the top of the line octa core Snapdragon 835 processor from Qualcomm. There’s also an embedded Adreno 540 graphics chip.

Along with as much as 4GB of RAM and a stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system, the device should be ultra-smooth.

It comes with 64GB of built-in storage while a 128GB variant with 6GB of RAM has also been announced. A microSD card slot is present too.

The Nokia 8 is equipped with dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth version 5.0, NFC support and a USB Type-C port. It can, of course, connect to 4G LTE networks with two SIM card slots.

Another nice feature of the device is the Nokia OZO Audio. It results in 360-degree spatial audio which the company claims is substantially better than traditional stereo audio.

Battery and Sensors

A 3090mAh Lithium-ion battery powers the Nokia 8. It supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast battery charging technology.

It’s also equipped with a barometer and gyroscope in addition to the usual accelerometer and proximity sensors.

It also has an IP54 rating and thus, splashproof.

The Nokia 8 has an official price of €600 – that’s around ₱32,000.00. Expect a slightly higher official price in the Philippines though.

Global availability is said to start in September 2017.
