Samsung Mobile has officially launched its flagship smartphones for 2016 – the Galaxy S7 and its curved screen version, the Galaxy S7 Edge in Barcelona, Spain.

Both smartphones have improved hardware for performance, IP68 dust proof and water resistance certification, f/1.7 aperture camera for low light photography and a smaller camera protrusion.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have bodies made of metal and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The two can survive being submerged under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes without covering anything.

They either come with the Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm or Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 Octa. Both are powerful chips coupled with 4GB of RAM and TouchWiz UI on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Water resistant!

For photography, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are equipped with a 12 Megapixel camera at the back with f/1.7 aperture for an improved low light performance. The 5 Megapixel front camera also has the same aperture.

Thankfully, Samsung brought back the microSD card slot and can read up to 200GB memory cards.

As usual, there’s dual band Wi-Fi, 4G LTE connectivity, NFC with Samsung Pay in select countries, finger print sensor and several color options.

Support for virtual reality experiences using the Samsung Gear VR has been emphasized.
