We all know that tune – that new year tune. But few of us know what the new year song is or what is its title. Hence, I made a research and found out these:

1. The title of the new year’s song is Auld Lang Syne which translates to Old Long Ago

2. The new year song was composed by Robert Burns but he only made the song out of old balads which the folks in his village was already singing (they didn’t know the title too)

3. Auld Lang Syne’s message is to be reunited with old friends and celebrate

Now that you have the title of the new year song, go ahead and sing it. Here’s the lyrics:

Auld Lang Syne
by Robert Burns
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And auld lang syne?
Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit
Sin auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl’t in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin auld lang syne.
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine,
And we’ll tak a right guid willie-waught
For auld lang syne!
And surely ye’ll be your pint’ stowp,
And surely I’ll be mine,
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

And here’s a youtube video so you can play it on New Year’s Eve of 2013!
