The Huawei 5G CPE Pro is a new enterprise router that showcases the Balong 5000, the first-ever to support 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G networks in a single chip!

It means that the chip can easily switch to a 4G network or even to 3G and 2G whenever a 5G signal is not present in the area using minimal power. This is a necessary capability for devices during the transition from the current 4G technology to the 5G networks of the future.

The acronym CPE means Consumer Premises Equipment. It’s a term commonly used to refer to routers in an enterprise complex such as an office building or campus.

Hence, the Huawei 5G CPE Pro is simply the first consumer device with the Balong 5000 5G chip. It also supports the new Wi-Fi 6 wireless standard which means it can get a fast internet connection from the service provider as well as create a Wi-Fi network that supports the same speeds.

How fast? It reached 3.2Gbps in a live network test while the chip itself can reach anywhere from 4.6 Gbps to 6.5 Gbps depending on 5G spectrum used. That’s around 10 times faster than the fastest 4G LTE speeds!

According to the CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, “the Balong 5000 will open up a whole new world to consumers.”

The Huawei Balong 5000 is not an exclusive technology for routers, it can also be used in home broadband, vehicle-mounted devices for autonomous driving, and of course, in smartphones.

Its small form factor makes it perfect for these applications while the capability to support 5G only networks and those that also rely on 4G LTE cannot be understated.

Infrastructure roll-out for 5G networks won’t happen overnight and our devices should still work perfectly during this phase.
