Contrary to my previous article, the connection between PLDT and the Philippine Open Internet Exchange (PHOpenIX) will only speed up government websites under the gov.ph domain.

PLDT now serves as the third connection point of the PHOpenIX. Data from government websites can now pas through from the PHOpenIX to PLDT subscribers directly.

This means that PLDT is not yet locally peered with other Internet Service Providers (ISP) such as Globe and Bayan Telecommunications who are already members of the PHOpenIX.

When asked whether PLDT will eventually join the local IP Peering, the company’s lawyer Ray Espinosa said, “we’re studying all the legalities involved in this issue”.

See, I told you not to expect too much. While faster loading government websites are greatly appreciated, what people need is faster internet connection speed for all websites.
