Blackberry officially launched the Blackberry Passport during simultaneous events in Toronto, London and Dubai and gave it a $699 price tag or around ₱31,000.

The Blackberry Passport is powered by a Snapdragon 801 chip with 3GB of RAM on a 4.5-inch 453 square ppi display, 3,450mAh battery and Blackberry 10.3 OS. It also boasts a touch enabled physical QWERTY keyboard.

“I will challenge you guys to bend our BlackBerry Passport,” Blackberry CEO John Chen said during the launch of the Blackberry Passport. This is a testament to the durability of the Passport and a tease to the recent bending issue of the iPhone 6 Plus.

It is very clear that the Blackberry Passport is aimed at business professionals who are looking for a smartphone for productivity and security. The large square display of the Passport and security features of Blackberry 10.3 OS answers that but some might also find the shape of the smartphone to be cumbersome.

Design aside, the Blackberry Passport is a beast in terms of specs. Aside from the quad core 2.26GHz processor which is coupled with 3GB of RAM, it also has a 13MP camera on the back with optical image stabilization.

Blackberry 10.3 OS also has the ability to run Android apps in addition to what the Blackberry World has to offer. The company partnered with Amazon for its App Store that even provides one free app per day because it can’t access the Google Playstore.

The Blackberry Passport is now on sale in the US and other countries for an introductory price of $599. Before the end of the year, Blackberry will also bring the Passport to the Philippines.
