If you like to share files between your gadgets without hassle, you should look for those with NFC or S-Beam. These features used to belong to high end phones like Galaxy S4 only. But now, you can have Samsung Galaxy Fame with NFC and S-Beam for ₱7,490.

With S-Beam, you can share music, pictures and other files with another Samsung smartphone by placing the two back to back with each other. If you want to share to a smartphone of another brand, WiFi Direct is also available.

Here’s how Samsung Galaxy Fame looks like:

Samsung Galaxy Fame looks just like any other Samsung smartphone with a physical home button at the center and capacitive back and settings buttons. It has rounded corners and edges that makes it more comfortable to hold.

The screen is a mere 3.5 inches TFT capacitive display with a resolution of 320 x 480 Pixels. This is way below the resolution of other phones but it can accept multiple touch inputs at once.

Samsung Galaxy Fame Performance

Samsung Galaxy Fame PosterSamsung Galaxy Fame’s specs are discouraging if you try to compare it with other phones in its price level. It has a 1GHz single core processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM. If not for its Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, Samsung Galaxy Fame would not give justice to its name.

Battery capacity is at 1300 mAh only. I scratched my head why Samsung put up the poster on the right for Samsung Galaxy Fame highlighting it’s battery’s power when it’s way below the perceived necessary battery capacity for Android phones.

Let’s now look at the bright side of Samsung Galaxy Fame starting with its 4 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 64 GB using a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy Fame Camera

Equipped with a 5 MP camera, you can take pictures using your Samsung Galaxy Fame even at night since it has an LED flash. It’s also an autofocus camera so you’ll have sharp pictures by touching the display first before tapping the capture button.

For the front, there’s a VGA camera to take care of video calls and selfies. But it won’t give you high quality pictures or videos.

Samsung Galaxy Fame Connectivity

This part is where Samsung Galaxy Fame excels. Aside from NFC and S-Beam, Fame also has 3G connectivity and WiFi. You can even set it up to be a WiFi hotspot just like any other Android phone running Ice Cream Sandwich and up.

Another thing that you can look forward with Samsung Galaxy Fame is its set of gesture controls. You can share it to refresh a website and turn it face down to mute. Samsung called this Motion UI.

You also have the usual Samsung apps like ChatON and Game Hub Lite.

Samsung Galaxy Fame Verdict

Samsung Galaxy Fame brings NFC and S-Beam to a relatively low priced smartphone compared to Galaxy S3 or S4 but with grave consequences. The display, processing power and memory has been greatly sacrificed.
If you don’t have friends or family members that own an S-Beam capable device, what’s the use of this feature?
