Starmobile is sizing up the competition.

The rising interest with local smartphone brands in the Philippines has made awesome smartphone models to come out from Cherry Mobile, My|Phone and now, Starmobile.

Starmobile’s latest addition to its array of smartphones is the Smartmobile Flirt – a 4.5 inch dual core, dual sim smartphone running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with enhanced 12 Megapixel rear and 3 Megapixel front camera on a scratch resistant screen and a slim, gorgeous body.

What I like with the Starmobile Flirt

Starmobile seems to be taking the side of Nokia when it comes to design. Flirt looks like a Nokia Lumia in blue or red. This is contrary to Cherry Mobile and My|Phone’s white and black colored smartphones.

I also like Starmobile Flirt because it uses a scratch resistant glass named Dragontrail. I think that’s the first in the local branded phones and Filipinos will love this feature.

Playing games with Starmobile Flirt is smooth and entertaining. It has enough processing power to run Temple Run 2, NBA 2K13 and even Need for Speed. It’s 4.5 inch screen adds a good amount of space without making it too large for the not so large hands of Filipinos.

Finally, the feature that I like the most with Flirt is its 12 Megapixel camera with BSI. BSI stands for Backside Illumination. It is a technique used to improve the picture quality of cameras in cellphones especially in low light situations. Add to that a 3 MP camera for video call – an improvement from the common 2 MP and VGA front camera of other phones.

What I Don’t Like with Starmobile Flirt

To start with, it’s battery is only 1700 mAh. With the 4.5 inch screen, that will force you to charge every 6-7 hours when using Flirt with WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and a bright screen. Turning WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth off when not in use will increase Flirt’s life to almost two days. But hey, that is normal with Android phones.

The price too is an issue for me. It’s more than 9,000 – that’s not very affordable for many Filipinos. The bright side is of course the jaw dropping features I’ve discussed above.

Should You Buy a Starmobile Flirt?

If you’re looking for the best smartphone that’s less than 10,000, by all means, go with Starmobile Flirt. It is the best locally branded smartphone in the Philippines today because of its features.
